NOW IN OUR 26TH YEAR! Bethesda Lacrosse is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization established in 1989 to provide an outstanding opportunity for players, ages 5-15, to learn and play lacrosse. We have lacrosse programs for girls and boys and we have also developed a year-round Travel/Club Program.
Our objective is to accommodate as many recreational players as possible, while providing top-notch competitive opportunities for advanced players. Our goal is to give our community youth a great lacrosse experience including life-long lessons of sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership.
Bethesda Lacrosse Association is proud to announce the addition of Matt Breslin as its first Executive Director, effective August 16th, 2015. Mr. Breslin is tasked with focusing on the operations of Bethesda Lacrosse Association (“BLA”) and will be the first to fill this new and vital role. In recent years, participation in youth lacrosse has grown dramatically and BLA has experienced significant growth across all of its programs. The addition of Mr. Breslin to BLA will greatly enhance our ability to meet the demands of this growth and maximize the quality of our offerings.
Mr. Breslin has coached and worked with lacrosse players of all ages since he graduated from Duke University in 2001. He has coached at the top of the high school game (Gonzaga College High School from 2002-2005) and the college game (assistant coach at Georgetown University in 2010) and is the founder of Breakout Lacrosse, a youth-based lacrosse club in Washington, DC. Participants in Breakout Lacrosse Programs will be invited into BLA as part of this transition. Matt will continue his long standing relationship with The Washington Inner City Lacrosse Foundation (“WINNERS”), where he has served since 2011.
Matt was an All-American Goalkeeper at Duke University as well as Team Captain in 2001. Matt started in the net for the Blue Devils for 3 years, was part of the All-ACC Tournament Team, an ACC Champion as well as an ACC Academic Honor Roll recipient. Matt finished his career on the field in Major League Lacrosse with the New Jersey Pride. In high school, Matt was New Jersey Player of the Year in 1997 and led his team to 2 state championships with a national ranking of #2 in 1996.
Matt has been married to his wife Dorsey since 2010, and they have two daughters. Matt’s twin brother, Jamie, is Senior Associate Athletic Director at Stanford University.
As part of this announcement, BLA is excited to welcome the families and players who currently participate in Breakout Lacrosse Programs and Teams. We anticipate a seamless integration of two exceptional youth lacrosse organizations and the overall enhancement of the experience of all participants as a result.
